Product Description

In "The Type 2 Diabetes Breakthrough," Frank Shallenberger, M.D., presents his revolutionary approach to treating type 2 diabetes. He documents his extensive research, which shows that the root of diabetes is a decrease in energy production and fat metabolism, an integral part of diagnosing and treating diabetes. He then shows how to correct the factors that lead to this condition to stop the disease in its tracks. At the core of his treatment protocol is his unique perspective on nutritional guidelines for diabetes for optimal energy production. In fact, Dr. Shallenberger explains why the Ameican Diabetes Association's dietary guidelines are nothing more than a recipe for keeping the disease. Another unique component of his treatment approach is an emphasis on optimizing liver function. Though conventional medicine focuses on the pancreas as the organ responsible for diabetes, Dr. Shallenberer has proven that the liver is the primary organ of importance in most cases of diabetes. And, of course, Dr. Shallenberger considers exercise to be an integral part of any successful treatment or prevention plan for type 2 diabetes, but not just any form of exercise will do. The exact level and type of exercise necessary is based upon the results of the Bio-Energy Test. In fact, Dr. Shallenberger's research has shown that most diabetics who exercise are working out too hard to get well! Rounding out Dr. Shallenberger's program are vital stress-reduction and sleep recommendations to improve blood sugar control and overall health. Despite all of conventional medicines's attempts at treating and preventing diabetes, its incidence continues to soar. It's time for a new-proven-approach. It's time for "The Type 2 Diabetes Breakthrough".

No more than a sales pitch

Review Date: December 2, 2008

To say that I was very disappointed with the book is an understatement. It didn't take me many pages to start doubting this guy's statements (is he even a doctor?) as a number of his statements (e.g., you don't need fruits at all) sounded to me like he was laying the groundwork to sell something. True enough, he is selling his very own special equipment, special supplement/pill and special procedure. He sounds no different from a herbalife or some other bogus "health" supplement salesman, or a salesman selling some miracle product in shop-TV.

Revolutionary? Breakthrough? Only if you are gullible enough to buy his specially formulated supplement/pill, and undergo his one-of-a-kind special equipment and procedure. His book is nothing more than a sales pitch.

Endocrinology, for if you want to understand or actively manage your diabetes that much better

What's great about this is that it has more endocrinology than any
other diabetes book I've seen. And, not only does he explain it, but
gives some supplementation advice (over the counter and otherwise) to
give you ways to tackle it.

The 'breakthrough' is that he's got an overarching theory about
diabetes, that it's the loss of the ability to generate energy as you
get older. When you're younger, you generate most of your energy from
fat; you stop producing some hormones and come to rely on carbs more
as you age.

But it's not a mystical theory, just a convenient wrapper for a lot of
facts - he refers to many, many studies throughout - he's plugged-in
to the research, and gives details and mechanisms.

Anyway, it's a great consumer-level endocrinology book, it goes into,
with satisfying but not stultifying detail, hormones such as DHEA,
cortisol, testosterone, estrogen, and the importance of your liver.
If you actively manage your diabetes, and don't have a book with a
similar level of detail, this one's pretty good. It can answer
questions a couple levels of cause back, such as, why you might not
have been able to 'hold your carbs' for the past few days (too little
sleep? too little exercise?)

He has association with some institute with 'homeopathic' in the
title, but he's an M.D., it may be just the name, there was nothing
outside of medical science in the book apart from meditation, but,
given how stress affects your hormones, good for him. He spends the
beginning of the book talking about his inventions of measures of how
you produce your energy, which you have to find a center for to take -
but he's not just selling something, the rest of the book is well
worth the price (to me) without it, and he may well prove to be out in
front.

Very interesting, and very informative. It left me wishing for more,
but, that's at least not entirely the fault of Dr Shallenberger,
unfortunately there's a lot that just isn't known about diabetes.
Beating Type 2 Diabetes

I'm glad I spent the money for this book. Bioenergy testing facilities seem to be scarce hereabouts. It is some help that Schallenberger's supplement regimen lists the ingredients. I still have the impression that type 2 is not a disease but merely a condition that results from vitamin/mineral shortages plus too many calories and too little exercise.
